Complaint: I received a notice in the mail from TCF Bank on XX/XX/XXXX, dated XX/XX/XXXX, notifying me that an account in my name was been overdrafted. I did not open this account, and have no relationship with it. This may be part of an on-going attempt by an unknown person to steal my identity, which has involved over 10 attempts to take out unauthorized lines of credit and loans in my name. I have an active report filed with the XXXX Police Department related to this. I have checked my credit report and there is no notice of a hard or soft credit pull by TCF Bank or Chemical Bank. I put a freeze on my credit report using all three credit agencies in XXXX. No attempt was made by TCF Bank that reached me to verify this account prior to it being opened. I just spent almost 20 minutes on the phone with a TCF Bank representative who filed an internal report that the account was fraudulently opened, but refused to freeze or close the account. I was told that if I visited a branch that it " might be possible '' to close it there.
